All about Peanut Butter
Peanut butter is a spread made primarily from ground, dry-roasted peanuts. It often includes additional ingredients to enhance flavor and texture.
Peanut farmers plant seeds in warm, sandy soil. The seeds sprout and grow into small, bushy plants. Yellow flowers bloom above ground and form pegs. Pegs grow into the soil, where peanut pods develop underground. The plants are dug up, and the peanuts are separated and dried.
While George Washington Carver, an American agricultural scientist and inventor, is widely credited with bringing the delicious flavor of peanut butter to American life, he only popularized it. References to roasted peanut pastes can be traced to ancient Incas and the Aztecs. In 1933, Joseph Rosefield created a new formulation for peanut butter that was less sticky and longer lasting under the SKIPPY® brand.

Peanuts are grown all over the world in warm climates with sandy soils. The peanuts used in SKIPPY® peanut butter products are sourced from farms in the United States in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Texas and Oklahoma.

Contrary to popular belief, peanuts do not grow on trees! They actually grow underground on a bush that stands about a foot high. To harvest peanuts, farmers must dig up the entire plant and let them dry out before they are collected.
Peanuts originated in South America, specifically in the region that includes modern-day Peru and Brazil. They have been cultivated for over 7,000 years and were an important crop for ancient civilizations like the Incas.

No, there is no actual butter in peanut butter. The name “peanut butter” comes from its creamy, spreadable texture, which is similar to that of dairy butter.
